A Legacy Born of Sacrifice
Post 63’s history is inextricably linked to the local impact of the Great War. The organization held its first regular meeting on September 20, 1919, as veterans sought ways to transition back to civilian life while keeping the bonds formed in service.
On February 5, 1920, members named the post after two local heroes: Wilmer N. Sorrell and Nelson G. Maynard, Northfield residents who served in the American Expeditionary Forces in France. Their sacrifice remains the guiding light for the post’s mission today.
